Who’d have thought that companies around the world would switch to remote working in less than six months?

Instead of dressing up for your office, now you can work in your pajamas on your bed. You can also save precious time spent commuting to work. It would be right to say that the whole remote work culture is possible because of technology. Especially, the work from home apps and web conferencing platforms made work and meetings more comfortable.

Thanks to video conferencing applications, now everyone can connect with their team members and discuss. The scenario gets even more hassle-free when everything becomes automated. You schedule a meeting, add emails of attendees, and voila! All the meeting details, i.e., meeting link, date and time, and member information, are sent to each attendee.

Web conferencing platforms saw a high rise in their daily use by almost everyone, be it an employee, CEO, or family. From Microsoft Teams and Cisco Webex to Google Meet and Zoom, every company came all in to provide a seamless video calling experience. However, Google Meet emerged out to be a strong winner with over 100 million active users.

What is Google Meet?

Google Meet is a premium web conferencing software developed by Google and is included in the G-suite. However, Meet also has a free version available to all the Gmail account holders. This web conferencing platform is becoming a popular choice because of its seamless usability.

Type in the URL of the meeting in your browser, give permissions, and you’re connected to the meeting. It’s an excellent choice for real-time video calling for businesses as well as personal interactions.

Remember that Google Meet is not the same as Hangouts, although both are Google products. Hangouts was launched earlier than Meet, but both products received appreciation from a broad segment of users. Here are some main differences between Google Meet and Hangouts:

  • Hangouts limits the number of participants to 10, while Google Meet allows up to 100 attendees in the free version. The premium version of Google Meet accepts up to 250 members.
  • Hangout is available to everyone with a customer account (a Gmail account). In contrast, the premium version of Google Meet is exclusive to G-suite users. The free version of Google Meet is available to everyone.

Google Meet Features

Google meets boasts of a plethora of features for integrations, usability, and compatibility. The main catch here is that Google meet features are ever-evolving. Google makes sure to develop and add new features to its web conferencing software to enhance user experience. Let’s look at the different Google meet features:

  1. Unlimited Number of Meetings: One of the most loved Google Meet features is the freedom to host an unlimited number of meetings, even in the free version. 5. Intelligent Integrations: When you use Google Meet, there is no need to head over to a new tab and put down the link. Instead, you can join meetings directly from Gmail or Calendar with a single click.
  6. Super Secure: Nobody would like it if their sensitive information gets leaked online. That’s why Google uses strong encryption to protect user’s data during a video call.
